Beer Battered Tofu

Beer battered tofu with roasted asparagus, roasted corn and mashed potatoes with chives.

The beer batter was made with flour, cornmeal, dark beer, water, salt, pepper, chili powder, cayenne, paprika and garlic powder. The asparagus was tossed with olive oil, salt, pepper and minced garlic and roasted for about 10 minutes in the oven.

What type of tofu did you use? And what brand of beer?

  3. The beer was Richbrau something porter (vegan btw).

Yeah, I was just going to make regular tofu dusted with flour and then fried but then on a whim I decided to do a batter. I used 1 part cornmeal to 2 parts flour and seasoned it to taste really. Then mixed in some beer and water to make a batter that is slightly thicker than pancake batter. Dipped the tofu slices in it (dried it first with paper towel, you could always dip it in flour first) and then pan fried it in lots of canola oil, drained and then served.

  8. that looks great! i love your site. i have been a vegetarian for a while and i am just now switching to vegan.

question: i used to always put ranch dressing on my salad, and i am not a big fan of oil+vinegar or balsamic vinaigrette. are there any other salad dressing options that are vegan that i should look for?

    thanks much!
